Steve Dourdil started his musical journey in 1983, taking guitar lessons at school until moving to Luxembourg in 1985 where he got his hands on his first electric, a red flying V, which saw him join his first band. This was followed by various other rock bands, playing lead guitar and occasionally singing, including bands with his brother Andy on drums, and a brief spell with Stefan Olsdal (now bass player for Placebo).
1993 saw Steve leave the forests of Luxembourg for the windy streets of Salford, Manchester. Auditions with Manchester band Skywalker (who went on to change their name to Solar Race and be signed to Silvertone Records) lasted a couple of months until, several months later, singer / guitarist / writer Kev Howlett entered the picture, and the pair moved down to London to form Blooming Cellar and meet drummer Jean-Marc Valat - this was to last about 3 years, gigging and recording heavily and attracting interest from Radio One’s Steve Lamacq, who featured their songs on The Evening Session.
In 2000, Steve was to join forces once again with Jean-Marc in a female-fronted band called Saturn which was to last about a year until a lack of freedom and a general disenchantment led him to throw in the towel and go back once again to writing for himself.
When Jean-Marc invited him down to see him playing an acoustic gig to showcase material for his new project Morning Lane in December 2003, his curiosity got the better of him and, a couple of months later, he found himself strapped back once again to his trusty Les Paul, fingers bleeding once more, in front of Jean-Marc’s drum kit, wishing he’d never thrown those bloody earplugs away…
